Synopsis
The short animated film „By the River“ tells the story of a young woman growing up in a world of decay and danger. Her imagination is her shelter as well as her strong friendship with another girl. But this connection at the same time is characterised by pain and alienation. While fighting with loss and an unhappy love, she manages to find hope and healing through the power of friendship and her childhood fantasies.
The film combines contrasts such as joie de vivre and decline in a melancholic aesthetic, showing how fragile, new worlds can emerge from strong connection.
